A Workshop Opportunity to Increase Your Organization's Resiliency

When it comes to anticipating and developing plans to reduce our risks, for too long organizations have been left with two options:  spend a lot of money on a business continuity and disaster recovery plan or simply throw caution to the wind, do nothing, and hope for the best.  The recent floods in Middle Tennessee have shown that doing nothing is not a wise option.  Nor do you have to spend much money.  BUT, you got to have a plan!

Attention is appropriately being given to the subject of disasters in light of the devastation the floodwaters caused to residential and business properties.  Lipscomb University and Compass Executives is offering a morning workshop on "How Nashville CEOs Lead During a National Disaster" on July 30th. (Look at my earlier blog on leadership in the aftermath of a disaster.)  And the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce is focusing upon Business Resiliency in the Face of Disasters on August 25th at its "Informed and Inspired Speaker Series."  I will be one of the presenters and we will be getting out more information shortly.

I want to bring your attention to a workshop I am offering specifically for nonprofits on July 22nd.  Here are some details on the event.

Survivor or Statistic Essentials: A Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Workshop for Nonprofits

During this workshop:

  • You will be introduced to the framework and methodology of developing a plan;
  • You will be introduced to the templates, various options and best practices for developing key strategies, including various disaster recovery options related to technology;
  • I will be using a state-of-the-art planning software that allows for an open design that incorporates existing organizational data expediting the planning process and saving money;
  • We will mine the recent flooding disaster for “lessons learned” for our organizations.

Key Benefits and Takeaways:

At the end of this workshop, you will have the basic knowledge and exposure to planning tools that can help you build a unified BC/DR Plan for your organization, showing you how to properly document the places, people and things required by an organization to return to “business as usual” regardless of the type of interruption it suffers. Your organization will:

-        reduce its risk of business interruption

-        have tips on improving its recovery processes

-        have taken active steps on increasing its resiliency

-        have a greater peace of mind

Workshop Cost:  $40.00 per individual

Date:  July 22, 2010; 1:30-4:00 pm

Location:  Noah Liff Opera Center 3622 Redmon Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37209

 Click here to register for the event. Please feel free to pass this on to other nonprofit leaders.
