“Good Drinks” is an occasional gathering of interested and interesting people on important issues affecting our lives and our communities.
John Hilley of Patmos Consulting is posting this notice to gauge your interest in convening for discussion over the topic: “Making the most of your disaster buck”
Please e-mail me, post a response below, or forward to those who may be interested.
The horrible images piped in from Haiti over the last couple of weeks have now reduced to a trickle. Yet tremendous need remains…just as our urge to help. Middle Tennessee individuals, non-profits, corporations, and foundations have stepped up to help reduce the plight of Haitians. Early on, many of us who wanted to help struggled to figure out where to give intelligently. We know that disaster response donations fill a critical need, but are considered to be a more expensive and least effective way to help when compared to giving under "normal conditions". Now, with Haiti recovery efforts before us for years to come, and other disasters local or global yet to come, how are we to respond strategically and compassionately in times of great need?
Over your drink of choice, John will guide an informal conversation among interested givers, non-profit and social enterprise folks, disaster experts, and development workers who show up. The discussion will range from what motivates our giving, tracking our giving, and improvements and innovation in how we prepare for and respond to disasters locally or globally. We'll pool some thoughts about how to improve the way we help.
-Event is free except for cost of drinks (drink of choice available: coffee, wine, beer, water)
-This event is intended for thought leaders in the arena of philanthropy, nonprofit, disaster preparedness and response and social enterprise.
-For questions on the event or possible questions to discuss, contact John Hilley at jhilley@patmosconsulting.com.
